La Vega

Hello everybody, we are in Lavega with my friend Chulo. We went to club last night and had a great evening in Barranca. Today we went to church And our kids got a taste of some good ol baptist preaching. It has been fun to watch our kids play dominoes, baseball and walk to the colmado for Coke. We leave in the morning to head to Santo Domingo for one day to relax before we fly out. Our team continues to work hard have fun and really experience the bigness of God. We get up early in the morning for our devotionals breakfast and a time to process the whole experience. It has been so cool to see our students interact with all kinds of incredible people. Not having computers and cell phones has made this experience genuine and rich.

Dominican 7

We are about to go to bed after a great day. This was our last hard day of work which included painting, cutting down massive trees and we have already finished a major sement project. After dinner we took an incredible I make up a small river to a massive waterfall. Christy Penley and Stephanie Yassa both jumped from the waterfall. Right now the students are sitting around a bonfire talking to the local teenagers. In the morning we head to a town called Lavega for our 2 night homestay. Our kids are both excited and nervous about this.
If my updates slow down it is because we have no Internet access.

Dominican 6

Tonight we went in to town to eat at a great chicken restaurant. The kids had a lot of fun. Then we hung out around the town square eating ice cream and talking to the locals. Little boys are everywhere trying to shine your shoes or sandals or whatever you're wearing for just a few pesos. The great thing about this trip is that we experience culture on so many levels and then get to process. We just finished dancing with many locals as they taught us the merengue, salsa and the Baracha. Every single person On our team was dancing. We had a really hard day of work today getting the camp ready for Dominican students. Tomorrow is one more full day at work and our team is healthy and positive.

God is good.

Scott Boss and Christy Penley are posting pictures to their Facebook accounts, so ask them to be friends to see more pics. Last night was really fun at YL club. There were kids everywhere being led by our new friends. I have been very grateful for the spiritual conversations We are having with our team as we walk from here to there. Right now they are spending time with God this morning sitting all over this incredibly gorgeous camp. It has also been a blessing to see the unique gifts of each of our kids come out. Some are great with labor, some are great with kids, and several are very good reaching out to new faces.
On a much more shallow note, I remember going on international mission trips with an older man who took ibuprofen left and right. I am now that man after working with cement for two days.

Dominican 4

Today was another good day off cement work, painting and making rock columns. I am amazed at the attitudes . no drama. Tonight we go to young life club on Jarabacoa and some of our group will visit an orphanage. Our kids love all the Dominicans who are staying with us. Tomorrow after work we will have salsa and meringue dance lessons.

Dominican 3

We made it safely. We had a two hour drive thorough the country. The kids have been laughing with the locals and working hard in the sun. This camp is holy ground for many Dominicans and they see our work as holy work. The best part if the work is that we work alongside many locals. The team has  been great.
My post will be short because I'm no good at texting.

But God is good

Hey Parents and Supporters,
We will do our best to keep the blog up to date each day. The internet is through satellite, so it will be difficult. We do hope that you all will fill this page with comments including words of encouragement, prayers etc. We will relay these good words to the team.

We stay in Atlanta tonight then off to the DR at 10 am.
(Update: this is our team this year)
